Calm Before the Storm

The moment I step onto the boardwalk, my mood lightens.
The cool salty air tingles my nose and makes me feel alive.
The soothing sound of the waves, crashing rhythmically,
Makes all my troubles melt away.

Stepping off the boardwalk, the warm sand cascades over my feet.
The breeze blows my hair off my face.
My feet leave footprints in the spongy, sodden sand.
There is no where else I would rather be.

The Hidden Treehouse

As a child, there was no where else I would have rather been than in my tree house. My brother and dad had built it when we lived in Plymouth. On a nice summer afternoon I would gather my toys and books and climb the creaky, brown, wooden ladder into my private oasis. My mom had stenciled colorful flowers on to the brown clapboard exterior, and although they had faded, the petals were still visible. Opening the purple door, I felt at home once again.
My tree house was a place for me to get away from the neighborhood kids and my brother and just be by myself. Inhaling, I would smell the familiar salty air from the ocean down the street. For hours I would sit in my tree house and play with dolls, or read books. Today, I am still an introverted person. Although I like being with others, I also enjoy time alone in my own space without the company of others. Some of my best, most memorable childhood times were spent in my tree house hidden in the woods.

Labels Are For Cans, Not People

My own personal motto I live by is “be your own person”. I think this is extremely important because it is necessary to be an individual. I try not to care about fitting in and being like everyone else, I try to be my own person. It is important to make your own decisions in life, and decide for yourself what you want to do and who you want it to be. It is easy to be influenced by others, but important to stand up for what you believe in and do your own thing. Everyone is unique, and no one should spend their life trying to be like anyone else.
